Choose a book or text that has no pictures when visualizing reading activities. Begin by reading a short passage. Read the passage carefully once or twice, paying special attention to things such as the characters and places in the story.
Make a mental picture of the reading activity in your mind. Highlight the words or phrases that trigger images in your mind. Imagine what a movie would be like based on the author's words.
Make notes of what you visualized using a two-column journal. Write down a short section of the passage on the left side and write down a summary of the images that you see in your mind while reading on the right.
Link specific sections from the reading activities to experiences that you had in your life. Use your past experiences to help create images of what the author is trying to bring across to readers.
