Gather the interview panel by inviting the human resource personnel, company chief executive officer or managing director, board members and company owners. Assemble as an interview panel in advance at the interview venue. Discuss your general expectations of the candidate as a panel. Assign the human resource manager as the panel leader who will start of the interview process.
Prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewees. List open-ended questions, such as what do you know about the position of a chief accountant, what responsibilities did you have in your previous job or what are the key tasks of a chief accountant. Base your questions on the roles of the chief accountant in your firm. Questions should focus on the financial responsibilities the chief account will have if one of the interviewees gets the job.
Invite the interviewee into the office. Look through the interviewee's credentials; tertiary qualifications should include studies in accounting and business. Read through previous job experiences listed in the resume.
Ask the questions you prepared on your list earlier. Learn as much as you can about the interviewee's previous achievements and the reason the applicant left his or her previous job. Finish the questions on the list and give each panel member an opportunity to ask the interviewee additional or clarification questions.
Inquire about the expectations of your interviewee in terms of salary and working hours; the response will assist you when making your final decision. Give the interviewee a chance to explain himself or herself and persuade the panel as to why he or she is best suited for the job.
