Buy a good English to Spanish dictionary. This is your new Bible.
Buy a beginner Spanish book. There are many of them available but they are not all created equal. I like Quick Start Spanish by Arlene Jullie. It really helps you understand the sounds and structure of the language. It also has great exercises in it to help you remember. This is available used for 3-7 dollars.
If Rosetta Stone software is too expensive for you try 'Learn to speak Spanish deluxe' It is available online for less than 20 dollars and it is a wonderful program. You can customize what you want to learn or take the whole thing. It has short lessons and a lot of games for each lesson so that you can use what you have learned. You can also download MP3 files onto your iPod or cell phone and listen to the lessons on the go.
Don't be afraid to learn like a child. Make flash cards of sounds and words that are difficult to remember. This is an excellent way to remember the sound difference between au and ua. Index cards are a cheap way to make your own flash cards.
Once you feel like you have mastered basic polite conversation and are starting to understand a little of what is being said when you hear Spanish spoken you should start reading Spanish books. These are also available used for a couple of dollars. Young adult books are great for this. Get that Spanish dictionary out and look up words that you don't know. Learn how to say these words and what they mean. This will expand your vocabulary very quickly.
