Ukindia is a very thorough website with multiple lessons and large print. These lessons focus on understanding the characters and becoming comfortable with reading in Gujarati. All of the lessons are also available to download to your computer. As of August 2009, the lessons on Ukindia are completely free, though donations are accepted. You can also order a printed version of the lessons and an English-Gujarati dictionary for $50.
Once you've learned the alphabet and common phrases, practicing with a native speaker is essential for advancing in the language. My Language Exchange is a worldwide network of language learners and teachers. There are over 3000 Gujarati speakers registered and many willing to teach it in exchange for English practice. You'll need to have a headset and Skype installed on your computer for live conversations.
To use any of the resources listed, you'll need to make sure your browser supports Gujarati fonts. First download a font from Fototext.com, then follow the instructions from the eHow article (both in References). The process is slightly different for installing fonts in Windows and on a Mac, so be sure you're following the correct instructions.
