How to Add Barcodes to Word

A barcode is a set of lines, similar to a visual morse code, that holds information about an item, usually a product that is for sale or held in inventory. The barcode file is commonly saved in an image format for printing. Barcode scanners retrieve the information from the code, as do some other devices such as certain cell phones. Adding a barcode file to Microsoft Word is a simple task.

Instructions

    • 1

Save your barcode file as a JPEG or TIF file in your image editing program to a folder on your hard drive. Make sure that you also set the barcode image to CMYK mode in the image editing program if you plan to print the document later. CMYK is a four color process used in printing that assures a more clear and accurate printout, even for black and white images like barcodes.

Load Microsoft Word and open a new blank document (CTRL + N) or click "File, and then "Open" to open an existing Word file. Click "Insert" then "Picture" on the Word main menu, and navigate to your saved barcode image file.
