The PT5000 unit from Pavement Technologies International is a large mobile recycling unit. Its parts are hauled in by trucks, and it can start recycling asphalt right as it is being stripped off the road. It can process five tons in one batch, or more than 100 tons every 24 hours. One person can operate the machine due to an automated control system.
This machine, developed by Pyrotech Asphalt Equipment Manufacturing, is a small compact unit that is single truck towable. The machine uses little or no oil. Instead, it simply remelts the asphalt that is torn up, and dumps freshly recycled asphalt out the back. It is a continuous onsite process, so very little time is wasted hauling the asphalt to a site and then hauling fresh asphalt back to the filling area.
The Asphalt Zipper is not a complete system. Rather, it is a small pulverizer that mounts to the front of a bucket on a loader. It scrapes the road and deposits the pulverized asphalt in the loader bucket or in an outside bucket. According to the manufacturer, the per hour rate is 4,000 square feet. The pulverized asphalt is sent to a local melting facility, where it is reused to repave the road.
