Two-post lifts and four-post lifts are two of the most widely used types of car lifts available. The American Products Model TP9A and TP011X are two-post car lifts. The FP12 and SS-8000 XLT are four-post car lifts.
A car lift's lift capacity refers to the maximum amount of weight the lift can handle. The Model TP9A offers a 9,000-lb. lift capacity. SS-8000 XLT car lifts offer an 8,000-lb. lift capacity. The American Products FP12 car lift offers a lift capacity of 12,000 lbs. and the TP011X offers an 11,000-lb. lift capacity.
Many car lifts must be constructed atop a solid concrete surface to provide a sturdy foundation for the machine. The manufacturer recommends that its TP9A and TP011X car lifts be supported on a concrete floor that is at least 4 inches thick and rated at 3,000 psi (pounds per square inch).
