How to Learn Korean Quickly

The Korean language has roots in classical Chinese. Simon Ager reports that the first person to use the modern name for the Korean alphabet -- Hangeul -- was a linguist in the late 1800s. Using Hangeul along with grammar construction can help you master the Korean language quickly. Incorporating useful, everyday phrases into lessons will assist learners in convenient communication.

Instructions

    • 1

Lean the Hangeul alphabet. Like English, the Korean alphabet creates words out of consonant and vowel letters. Learn how to pronounce and write the 19 different consonants and the 21 vowels to create sounds and words.

    • 2

Practice the characters. Write down characters with a pen and notebook. Practice saying the characters aloud as you write them. Characters are drawn from top to bottom and from left to right to create words. Practice creating characters and study their meanings often to help you comprehend the language quickly.

    • 3

Practice on people. Get a tutor or native Korean speaker to help you with your pronunciation of letters and words. Practice with other fluent speakers as often as possible to help you absorb the language easily. Listen for words you don't know and ask for their meanings. Incorporate newspapers, magazines, books and television in Korean to get your mind acclimated to the language.

Learn basic phrases. Write down basic phrases such as "Give me..," "How are you," "I'm sorry," and "Thank you" in Korean. If you don't have time to learn the complete language, gather an assortment of phrases to use and memorize them to communicate easily.

Use flashcards. Buy a pack of Korean flash cards, or create your own to use on a daily basis. Punch a hole in the corner of each card and attach them all to a large ring. Write down letters, words, phrases and sentences on the card with the English translation on the back. Carry them with you to practice throughout the day.
