Tub Grinders Compared

Tub grinders are pieces of heavy forestry equipment that are used to grind and pulverize materials. Material -- most often wood and brush -- is deposited into the tubs located atop tub grinders. Gravity draws the material through the grinder located at the bottom of the tub and out an exit chute. There are several tub grinder manufacturers, including Diamond Z Manufacturing and Duratech. Both companies offer different models of tub grinders including the DZT8000TKT and the Model 9.

    • Diamond Z Manufacturing's model DZT8000TKT tub grinder is fitted with an engine designed by Caterpillar. This C27 Tier 2 engine offers 1,050 horsepower. Duratech's Model 2009 tub grinder is also fitted with a Caterpillar engine. This C9 tier 3 engine offers 325 horsepower.

    • The DZT8000TKT tub grinder offers a transport length of 45 feet, 7 1/16 inches, a width of 14 feet and a height of 14 feet. The Model 2009 tub grinder is 27 feet, 5 inches long, 8 feet, 6 inches wide and 129.85 inches tall.

    Tub Dimensions

    • Tub Depth on the DZT8000TKT is 63 inches. Top diameter on this grinder's tub is 14 feet and base diameter is 10 feet, 5 inches. The tub depth on the Model 2009 is 3 feet, 4 inches. Top tub diameter on this tub grinder is 9 feet, 6 3/8 inches and base diameter is 7 feet, 6 inches.

    Fluid Capacities

    • The DZT8000TKT features a fuel tank with a 550-gallon fuel capacity and a hydraulic system that holds 135 gallons of hydraulic fluid. Fuel capacity on the Model 2009 is 100 gallons. This tub grinder is fitted with a hydraulic system that can hold 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid.
