How to Learn to Count Money Online

Learning to count money is an essential skill that can be learned online. Look at both coins and paperback money because both are used in everyday transactions. It is challenging to starting counting both dollars and cents, so it is helpful to start out counting just one of these currency types. There are several online games to help you practice counting money.

      Play the ABC Ya! Counting Money game, found in the resources. This online counting game gives you practice with all denominations of US currency. It will give you experience with combining different bills and coins.

      Choose a starting level. If you have no experience counting money, or if you are teaching a young person how to count, go to Level 1, which deals with coins instead of using both coins and dollars. After choosing a level, you will be taken to a page with all the currency denominations and a large orange box.

      Find the amount of money at the top of the orange box. On Level 1 the amount will be less than one dollar. On the more advanced levels the total may reach up to $100.

      Drag the coins and paperback dollars into the orange box. Keep dragging money into the box until it adds up to the total at the top. This is a simple drag-and-drop interface. You just hold down your left mouse button over the appropriate denomination and then drag it over into the orange box. Let go of the mouse button and the money will stay in the box.

      Check your answer by clicking on the "Check" button on the bottom right side of the orange box. If you want to remove money from the box you can push the "Clear" button located on the bottom left side of the orange box.
