Slow down when you speak. Make sure that each word that you say is clear enough for others to understand the meaning. Consciously speak slowly when talking to others and practice speaking faster when you read or when you are alone.
Record yourself. Use your computer or a small tape recorder. Press record during telephone conversations or send yourself voice mail messages. Listen to your recordings and make note of your mistakes. Have your close friends and family critique your recordings as well.
Read aloud daily. Read books, magazines or newspapers and intensely listen to your voice as you read. Read slowly and take your time pronouncing each word. Ask a friend or family member for help with words that you cannot pronounce.
Pay close attention to the words of others when you have conversations, watch movies, or television. Listening practice enables you to hear others pronounce many English words correctly and can help to improve your pronunciation.
Carry a dictionary with you. Dictionaries give you the meaning of words and show you how to pronounce them. Obtain a pocket dictionary and take it with you wherever you go.
