If the home is connected by an underground utility feeder, various codes apply. Some of these include a minimum of a 100 amp service box and wires enclosed in a conduit. The city of Victorville, California, followed the state code when it developed its municipal code. Before undertaking an electrical connection, talk to the local building department to remain in compliance.
According to state code, all mobile homes must be grounded. This is usually accomplished by driving a copper rod into the ground and attaching a ground wire to it. Codes vary slightly from municipality to municipality. Grounding mobile homes is not that difficult, but it must be done as a safety measure against short circuits. The local building inspector can assist you with the ground rod placement.
If any permanent outdoor equipment is installed no extension cords are allowed. The equipment must be permanently wired in with damage-proof wiring methods, such as using a conduit. If the equipment or wiring is exposed to moisture, the wiring must be protected against the elements.
All electrical equipment, such as main disconnect boxes or access points, must have an unobstructed entryway. The state of California defines this area as being at least 30 inches in width by 30 inches in depth. The head clearance must be at least 78 inches tall. A clear area immediately in front of all electrical panels or equipment must be provided.
