Identify what accounting topic you want to study. You may want to start with the basics, such as inventory cost flow methods, depreciation and intangible assets.
Ask an accountant if she knows of any good DVD programs available. If you don't know any accountants, visit your local community college or university and get an expert there to recommend a DVD program.
Set up a schedule. Consult the beginning of the DVD program to find out how many lessons are involved and how much time they recommend you spend working with the accounting DVD. Plan accordingly.
Become a self-directed learner. Unlike high school, which was compulsory, or college, where the lecturer took attendance, learning accounting with a DVD requires you to take responsibility for your own study.
Cover all the material on the DVD. Just like a regular course, it is laid out so that you need to understand one accounting practice before you can move on to the next.
Take all the tests on the DVD and record your scores. At the end of the DVD program you can identity the areas where you need to do additional work.
Continually monitor and evaluate your progress. Assess how well the DVD program is working for you to determine if you require additional study.
