How to Develop IP Phone Services

An IP phone (Internet Protocol) service is a technology that uses Internet switched connections to interchange data, voice and other forms of communications. IP phone service uses Voice over Internet Protocol technology which enables you to make calls via a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular phone line. A VoIP service allows a business to make local, long distance and international calls at an affordable cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a specialized IP phone, a computer or an IP phone adapter. Inquire on the IP phone service you intend to develop. Some services can only work with a specialized IP phone or a computer. The specialized phone connects directly to the Internet outlet channel, and you can operate it as the usual phone. An IP phone adapter enables you to operate the service using a traditional phone.

    • 2

Get connected to a fast and reliable Internet provider. You can access internet through a cable modem, local area network, and a high performance service from a Direct Subscriber Line (DSL).

    • 3

Connect your telephone jack (RJ-14) to your internet route in case of a local area network or the Internet modem. Use the screws and tape accompanying the jack. Screw another jack on the wall to support your phone. Then remove the cover of both jacks and release the red and green terminal screws.

    • 4

Route the telephone cable from in between the two jacks. Provide additional six inches on both ends. Fasten the cables onto the walls at a 12-inch interval with cable staples. Expose inner wires from the cable jacks by peeling three inches of the cable cover from the jack using diagonal pliers.

    • 5

Use a wire stripper to remove 1/2 inch of the lining off the red and green wires on both ends of the cables. Tie both wires clockwise around their corresponding color -- coded terminal screws on both jacks. Tighten the screws with a screw driver.

    • 6

Place the phone adapter alongside your modem or router. Join your adapter to your internet router by plugging the patch cable supplied with the adapter into the jack (RJ-14) port behind your adapter and plug the other end into the wall. Hook your phone onto the wall jack. Lift the handset to listen for a dial tone.
