Christian Life Experience Degrees

Christian life experience degrees are popular among adult learners who have some education, but more life experience in their fields. Universities offer an "earn credit by portfolio" program in which students petition to enroll in two major courses that include learning theory and portfolio development. Students choose a portfolio topic such as "church ministries" and include information about their professional biography, resume chronology and field knowledge. Colleges assess the portfolio and reward credit for life experience. Christian life experience degrees are available in different majors.
  1. Associate of Arts in Psychology

    • Liberty University offers an online degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Christian Counseling through its associate's program. Students prepare for careers in counseling, advocacy and mental health services. The program equips students with knowledge of all aspects of Christian counseling and lay ministry. Christian life experience degree candidates design a credit program through the portfolio coordinator. The university also offers a bachelor of science in religion where students learn how to deal with contemporary issues that plague ministry.

Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Christian Ministries

    • Dallas Baptist University offers a bachelor's degree program in which students complete both general education coursework and major courses. General education courses include computer science, math, religion, natural science and electives. This Christian life experience degree allows students to select a major in Christian Ministries and complete courses in church administration, servant leadership and educational ministry. Students design a program with their advisor to meet the requirement for life experience credit. They must meet the 25-unit residency requirement before graduating with the degree.

Master of Church Administration, Divinity or Christian Ministry

    • Covenant Bible College and Theological Seminary offers its students the LEAD program, the Life Experience Acquired Degree Program. Students at the age of 30 earn a LEAD degree primarily through life experience credits. They create a portfolio and submit information about their prior learning and practical experiences and an annotated bibliography, outlining any books they have read and campus seminars they have attended. To qualify for the degree, master's program students must have a combination of eight years of life experience and a bachelor's degree.

Doctor of Divinity, Theology or Ministry

    • The Esoteric Theological Seminary allows adult students to petition for a life experience degree at the doctorate level. The online school gives credit for life experience and current spiritual work as a church leader. To obtain the designation, students must be ordained as a minister by the Esoteric Interfaith Church or other recognized church and/or seminary. They must complete a dissertation on a Christian ministry topic and submit a three-page spiritual history, outlining the role of religion in their lives. Students may enroll in coursework, also.
