How to Calculate Your Average Height

If you're still growing and want to know how tall you'll be as an adult, a simple math formula can help you find out. The formula will give you an average height result after taking into account your age, gender and the heights of both your biological mother and biological father. Since your height is only determined 70 percent by genetics -- health and nutrition also determine how tall you'll be -- your adult height could be as much as 5 inches taller or shorter than your calculation result. Ask your pediatrician to test for a more accurate prediction.

Instructions

    • 1

Add your mother's adult height in inches to your father's adult height in inches.

    • 2

Divide the combined height of your parents by two. This will give you the average height of your two parents.

    • 3

Add 3 inches to the average height of your parents if you are a boy. If you are a girl, subtract 3 inches from the average. The result is an estimate, in inches, of your average height as an adult.
