How to Learn Dutch Grammar

Millions of people in Belgium and the Netherlands speak Dutch. Dutch has much in common with the German, English, Danish and Swedish languages. According to the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 22 million people in Belgium and in the Netherlands speak Dutch. Millions more in Suriname, northern France, Aruba and the Antilles speak Dutch or a dialect of Dutch. You can learn Dutch grammar by engaging in a self-directed program of study through the many free resources available online and at your local public library.

      Enroll in a free online course in Dutch grammar through websites such as MyLanguages.org or DutchGrammar.com. Study at your own pace and focus primarily on the language grammar. Print study sheets to refer to as you progress through the grammar lessons.

      Listen to online recordings and podcasts of Dutch grammar lessons. Listen live or download the audio files to your computer so that you can listen at your convenience. Practice repeating the grammar lessons out loud to improve your pronunciation.

      Find a learning partner by posting an inquiry at a language exchange site. Select your native language and choose "Dutch" as the language of the partner you are seeking. Exchange email, text messages and live chats with a native speaker to learn Dutch grammar.

      Go to your local public library's language center. Apply for a library card if you do not already have one and then check out Dutch language grammar lessons on cassette tapes or CDs.
