Cordless Craftsman Power Tools

Craftsman manufactures an extensive cordless power tool line. Most of these tools operate under power provided by compact, nickel-cadmium or lithium-ion batteries. Craftsman offers many types of cordless power tools, including drill drivers, screwdrivers, circular saws and impact wrenches. Savvy tool operators are very careful while using any brand and model of cordless power tool. Cordless power tools offer a number of advantages and disadvantages over corded power tools.
  1. Models

    • Almost every corded hand power tool is available in a cordless model. Craftsman makes a line of drill drivers that includes such models as the 17191 C3 cordless drill driver. The 17090 C3 cordless impact wrench is among Craftsman's line of impact wrenches. The Craftsman C3 19.2-volt cordless trim saw is another cordless power tool manufactured by Craftsman. Craftsman's 11398 screwdriver is one of Craftsman's models of cordless screwdrivers. There is even a line of rotary tools manufactured by Craftsman that includes the model-61078 cordless rotary tool.

    Features

    • The 17191 drill driver offers adjustable speeds, 24 torque settings, an electric brake and weighs 6.1 pounds. Craftsman's 17090 impact wrench weighs 4.5 pounds and its motor rotates at a rate of up to 3,000 rotations per minute (RPM), offering 200 foot-pounds torque. The C3 cordless Craftsman trim saw rotates blades at a rate of up to 4,500 RPM. Craftsman's 11398 screwdriver comes with a custom-fit case and a two-piece bit set. This screwdriver offers two operating speeds. The 61078 cordless rotary tool comes with five accessories and can rotate at two different rates (6,500 RPM or 13,000 RPM).

    Batteries

    • Nickel-cadmium and lithium-ion batteries are the most widely used types of rechargeable batteries for cordless power tools. The 19.2-volt nickel-cadmium batteries fitted into the 17191 drill driver, 17090 impact wrench and C3 trim saw cordless power tools completely recharge in around one hour. The 4.8-volt removable, rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery pack in the Craftsman 61078 rotary tool recharges in around three hours. The Craftsman 11398 cordless screwdriver employs a 4-volt lithium-ion battery.

    Comparisons

    • Cordless power tools are more portable than corded power tools. Operators must plug corded power tools into a power supply to work properly, while cordless power tools can go anywhere. One drawback linked with cordless power tools is that the operator must charge them. When a cordless power tool loses its charge, the tool becomes ineffective. Operators cannot use cordless power tools for as long periods without interruption as they can with corded power tools.
