Read as much as possible. An effective way to increase comprehension is by reading English publications. Newspapers and magazines are useful for aiding comprehension and keeping up with current events or trends. Short stories or novels are also useful, provided that you have the skill to understand them. Even if you have a busy life, it is not hard to set aside 30 minutes a day for reading.
Write in English. Reading is helpful for comprehension, but writing allows you to put that comprehension to use. After reading something each day, test how much you understand by writing a few paragraphs about the main points or plot. Record anything you did not fully comprehend and ask an English-speaking friend or teacher for help later.
Listen to English media. Whether it is the news, television, radio or movies, take some time each day to hear as much English as possible. This is critical for understanding the language, words and accents by ear, which is something that reading or writing cannot provide.
Immerse yourself. The best way to practice comprehension and listening is through dialogue. Speak English every day with friends or a tutor. Once you are comfortable enough, spend time in public and interact with English-speakers who do not know your native language.
