Locate the first two numbers of each three-digit UTM coordinate to find the East and North values. For example, a UTM coordinate of "852 537" corresponds to an "85" East value and a "53" North value.
Locate the East and North values on the UTM grid lines using the values printed on the right side and bottom of the map. For example, the UTM coordinate "852 536" corresponds to the area labeled 85 on the bottom margin and 53 on the right margin.
Divide the map area formed by the Northern and Eastern points into 100 equal squares. Alternatively, use a grid reader corresponding to the scale of the map. Lay the grid reader over the box area marked by the "85" and "53."
Use the third digit of each part of the UTM coordinate to determine the row and column of the point to be plotted. For instance, the example "852 536" indicates the second grid point from left to right and the sixth grid point from bottom to top on the grid reader.
Mark the corresponding point. This is the exact location of the UTM point on the map.
