How to Make a Styrofoam Boomerang

The Aborigines of Australia are credited with the development of the boomerang. The boomerang is unique because it returns to the sender once it is thrown. There are several different types of boomerangs, but the most common has two arms that are curved on the ends and is in the shape of a "V."

Instructions

    • 1

Place a clean Styrofoam tray on a flat surface and mark off two strips that start at the center of the tray and extend to the curved edge. Make each strip 1 1/2 inches wide.

    • 2

Cut the strips out of the tray along the lines. You will now have two strips that are 1 1/2 inches wide and roughly 5 inches to 10 inches long.

    • 3

Place the Styrofoam strips in a “V” shape, ensuring the curved ends face up on one side and down on the other. Staple them together where they connect in the middle of the "V."

    • 4

Go outside and stand holding the end of the boomerang in the hand of your throwing arm. The “V” shape should point downward and extend in front of your hand.

    • 5

Swing your arm backward as though you are going to throw a baseball and when your arm is level in front, release the boomerang. Be careful not to sidearm your release or to let the boomerang go too soon.
