Signing Over a Check

There are several reasons why you may need to sign a check over to another person. Doing this is much easier than cashing a check and giving the money to an individual. It's also a good way to document the fact that you did indeed pay the individual. This is very useful when you owe a payment to a person, such as in the case of a car accident. Signing over a check is a very easy process. Here's how it is done.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the check over to the back.

    • 2

Find the first “Endorse Here” line.

    • 3

Write the phrase “Pay to the order of” on the first line.

    • 4

Write the name of the person, place or company that will be cashing the check. For example, if you're signing the check over to John Smith, you would write “Pay to the order of John Smith.”

    • 5

Sign your name on the next line. The person cashing your check will sign his or her name on the final line underneath your signature.
