BMI, or body mass index, is a measure of body fat that takes into consideration a person's height and weight. This calculation is most accurate for adults age 20 and up. According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, a BMI under 18.5 is considered underweight, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is normal weight, a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is overweight and a BMI over 30 is considered obese .
