Online Training Advantages & Disadvantages

Online training has become more popular as training classes have been adapted to an online format. While the pros outweigh the cons for many people, others prefer to attend training classes in person. Here are some of the advantages & disadvantages of online training for your consideration.
  1. Convenience

    • People can attend online training classes in their home offices while wearing their pajamas if they so desire. They do not have to add travel time to their schedules.

    Flexibility

    • An online training classroom is available around the clock, so people can fit the training into their own schedules rather than having to block out time to attend a training class.

    Shorter Time Frame

    • In-person training must include time for bathroom breaks and lunch, as well as the time needed to get to classes. With online training, more time is spent learning the objectives of the training.

    Loss of Charisma

    • Charismatic facilitators can engage the class and get them excited about the training. Online training mostly involves reading words on a screen, so that charisma is lost.

    Loss of Group Synergy

    • Good training classes often include group interactions that help the participants learn the objectives in a fun way. Group synergy is lost with online training.

    No Immediate Feedback

    • With in-person training, the facilitator can immediately answer questions. With online training, participants must wait until the facilitator is back online for an answer.
