Choose one of the five ITT Tech campuses that offer the automation engineering program. They are in the following cities: San Dimas, California; Portland, Oregon; and Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and Newburgh, Indiana. Depending upon where you live, you might need to take part of the program online and then relocate to finish.
Get admitted as an ITT Tech student. You need a high school diploma or GED certificate, and you are required to take the ACT, SAT or a placement test given by ITT Tech. Your test scores help enrollment staff place you in the correct classes in general education subjects such as math and English.
Complete the general education and elective classes. ITT Tech requires individuals seeking an automation engineering degree to complete 56 hours of general education classes and 32 hours of electives. The general education courses for an automation engineering degree consist of several math classes, including calculus, research methods and statistics. Other programs at ITT Tech don't require as many math classes for general education credits.
Finish the program with the core courses. Expect to take classes such as automation in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, hydraulics and computerized numerical control.
