There are a variety of nursing jobs available to someone who has a basic nursing degree. When nurses finish the first branch of their education, they are often able to find a job quite quickly. Although their job might not have potential for advancement without more education, many nurses find that the job they get right away is all that they are looking for. Even if they have dreamed of having a specialization in the past, they might forget about that once they get their first job.
Nursing students are used to long hours. When a nurse gets done with school and is able to get a job, they are going to be able to have a set schedule with work. This allows them to spend more time with their families. For some nurses, the idea of going back to school and to a long schedule with little time for themselves means that they will be away from their families. As nurses settle into a job, even if it is not the job they desire, the time they are able to spend with their families might outweigh their need to continue their education.
As nurses finish the first round of their school and begin to work, they are going to become aware of the amount of money they have taken out for student loans. Some nurses recognize that to go on to get a more specialized degree, they will need to take out more loans. This fact might keep nurses from going back to school.
Many nursing students enjoy the free time that comes with being done with school and getting a nursing job. They might be avoid going to school again because they do not want to give up on the extra time that they have gotten.
When a nurse has worked hard for their first nursing degree, they might feel satisfied with the job that they get--even if they had intended to go on and do more schooling in the future. Once that satisfaction sets in, it can be difficult to find the desire to go to school again.
