Instructions

    • 1

Create an environment in which you can study. Make sure this area is free of distractions and interruptions. Set up the CD player or computer. Get out a pen and paper.

    • 2

Play the TOEFL listening practice test. Find free sample listening tests online (see Resources) or use a CD that contains sample questions. Play the questions only once; it is important that you simulate the actual test experience in order to get the most out of this preparation. Do not stop the recording to replay a word you did not understand, as this will not be allowed in the actual exam.

    • 3

Respond to the questions. If you are working on a computer, you will need to type in the answer. If you are using a CD, you may record your answer in a booklet if the CD came with one, or you may record your answers on a blank piece of paper. Keep an extra piece of paper to quickly write down any questions you would like to look up when the exam is over.
