Motorsports fabrication is the building, assembling and fabricating of race cars. This could include the body paneling, engine assembling and mounting, or chassis construction. Most race cars entail various parts, so there is different motorsports fabrication for various aspects of the race car.
Many high-profile race teams prefer motorsports fabricators to enroll in a school or specialized classes for this particular field. Students learn basic compontens of motorsports such as the functioning of the engine, transmission, suspension, and rear end housing. They eventually learn the extensive skills of fabrication such as welding, computer numerically controlled lathe operation and cutting. Depending on the school, courses range between two and four years.
Motorsports fabrication involves a great deal of engineering. Fabricators should have an understanding of computer simulations, computer aided drafting, computer aided manufacturing, and computer numerically controlled lathe setup.
