How to Learn ASL Software

ASL software is used to learn American Sign Language. The software shows hand signs for English spoken words using both verbal and written cues. There are hand signs for the alphabet, single words and short sentences, and many words in spoken English are eliminated from ASL. The best software package is one that shows pictures of the hand positions along with their movements.

Read through the manual to get the basic understanding of hand positions and hand movements. Concentrate on learning the ASL alphabet first, then move to beginning hand signs. Knowing the ASL alphabet will enable you to spell words without knowing the actual signs.

Begin with lesson one. Do not move on until all hand movements are understood without looking at the diagrams. Practice in front of a mirror. Complete all lessons provided in the software package. Practice each movement until fluent.
