The main purpose of this program is to teach the concept and design of information systems for a computer-based organization and the functions associated in making the organization a success. Topics covered include database design, data communication and data analysis and design.
To pursue certification as an undergraduate, only a high school diploma or GED is needed. For advanced certification, an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. The degree does not have to be in the information technology field.
A variety of colleges and universities offer certification in information technology and management. Depending on each institution's requirements, students will have to acquire nine to 12 semester hours upon completion. Courses for this program consist of subjects including electronic commerce, business data communication, information technology management, database concepts and data models and database security.
