The Financial Management Service provides a variety of courses for employees, accountants, budget analysts, auditors and the general public. Courses are designed to provide practical skills and hands on-training and are one to two days in length. Many have no prerequisites other than a general understanding of federal financial accounting.
The Service's Government Budgeting and Accounting Concepts course introduces individuals to the fundamentals involved in government budgeting and accounting through accounting terminology, accounting principles and mandates, and standard financial statements and reports. Other courses include Reporting Proprietary Accounting Data, Statements of Transactions and the Fundamentals of Federal Financial Accounting.
Participants in each course receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Each course also provides participants with a total of eight to 16 professional education credits (CPEs), depending on the course.
