PHR Certificate Programs

A Professional in Human Resources (PHR) demonstrates organizational tactical skills by contributing to recruitment and orientation procedures in a human resource setting. HR managers can obtain certificates for completing PHR programs from on-site campuses as well as online schools. It's extremely important to note that a "certificate program" is not the same as "receiving certification." A certificate program allows the professional to update her skill level with a short-term program. A certification is given to a person after learning a specific professional practice and is officially awarded by the state's regulatory board.
  1. Noncredit

    • Many schools offer noncredit certificates for professionals who seek skill improvement concerning human resource management or who want to take a different career path without seeking any type of degree. Universities such as the University of Texas at Austin offer noncredit certificate programs such as the Business Skills for Human Resource Professionals and Human Resource Management Certificate. The courses can consist of 10-hour to 12-hour on-site classes.

    Prep Courses

    • For many HR professionals, continuing their education can mean honing their skills to receive a certificate in a human resource management program and then deciding later on in their career to take the exam for PHR certification. Campuses such as Merrimack College offer on-site campus prep courses consisting of a 36-hour program for HR professionals who can decide whether to just acquire their certificate or continue their education into state certification. Similar online prep courses are available at Capella University.

    Online Degrees

    • HR professionals can gain graduate or post-master degree certificates in HR management courses through online education. These certificate programs can also provide you with credits that may count toward your new degree. The Capella University offers online PHR classes through their School of Business and Technology, Human Resource Management course.

    Online and In-class Certificates

    • Depending on your work schedule, colleges can offer both on-site and online classes for human resource professionals. The DePaul Continuing and Professional Education Institute provides flexible courses for busy professionals to seek their PHR certificates to fit their schedules. The HR professional can choose between a 12-week, 3-hour session taken in class, an intensive 7-session Saturday course or a 12-week session learned entirely online.
