How to Learn About Forklift Safety

Just because you have a driver's license doesn't mean you can operate a forklift. According to the Department of Labor, most forklift accidents are the result of operators not being properly taught how to operate a forklift safely. Most forklift accidents occur when the forklift overturns or strikes a pedestrian. To operate a forklift -- also called a lift truck -- requires training and authorization. Certified forklift operators require the understanding of the different types of forklifts, as well as how to operate and maintain them. Refueling and recharging are another two areas in which you have to demonstrate competence.
