The GED Options in Georgia

The General Equivalency Diploma or General Educational Development is commonly known as the GED and is a process which proves the applicants' high-school level academic skills. The purpose of the GED is to provide with a formal qualification those who don't have a high-school diploma because they were home-schooled, left school early or migrated to the U.S. as adults. In Georgia, there are 42 colleges and three correctional centers which act as GED testing centers.
  1. South Georgia Technical College

    • South Georgia College offers regular GED tests in Crisp and Sumter counties, as well as free preparation for the five parts of the test: science, social studies, mathematics, literature, and writing. New students are evaluated and, based on their results, begin a personalized training course comprising group lessons, individual courses and computerized instruction. They can also undertake official GED practice tests to see if they are ready for the actual exams.

    Chattahoochee Technical College

    • The college allows applicants ages 16 and over to take the GED courses and requires participants aged 16 and 17 years old to complete a minimum of 12 hours in a classroom. They must demonstrate a certain amount of proficiency before they sit for the real exams. For adults (18+) free classes in writing, reading and math are offered but not mandatory. Those between the ages of 16 and 19 need to present an official withdrawal letter from a private, public or home school.

    Moultrie Technical College

    • Moultrie Technical College provides a free adult education program comprising classes in basic skills, GED diploma preparation, GED testing, English as a foreign language and workforce skills training. The subjects of the program include reading, math and writing, as well as computerized instruction. An individual who wishes to take the GED must be at least 18 years of age, or meet special needs requirements.

    Central Georgia Technical College

    • Applicants for the GED will have to take part in the Adult Education Program orientation session, where they will have to undertake the test of adult basic education. Depending upon their performance, students will go through individualized student education plans offered free of charge to help them prepare for the GED tests. Students can also enroll in PREP 360 Fast Track classes, where they first have to complete a 60 to 100 hour course before they test for the GED exam.
