The Second Vatican Council participants certainly wanted the people to participate in Gregorian Chant. The Chant's revival is seen in the Catholic Church today, where it is taught in school settings.
St. Basil's School of Gregorian Chant at the University in Houston, Texas, is dedicated to preserving and singing Gregorian Chant. The school teaches the whole repertoire of Gregorian Chant in its spring workshops. The curriculum covers the history of the Chant, singing English Chant and singing the ancient Benedictine Compline. The study is intense, starting early in the day and ending late, for three days.
Seminarians studying for the priesthood at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut, learn to sing Gregorian Chant. Classes in Chant are rare elsewhere, although nearby Yale University has held them and recruits specialists to teach. A Yale professor teaches Gregorian Chant at the seminary. The seminary promotes the Latin rite Roman Catholic Church. Traditionalists prefer the Latin Mass and Chant, and this has resulted in more Catholic interest in Gregorian Chant. The class ends with a final exam, which is a public performance.
The Cathedral Chant School, in Peoria, Illinois, was formed in 2008. The school is in St. Mary's Cathedral. The class sings, and studies the history of Gregorian Chant. The students are taught how Chant fits into the Catholic liturgy and how to sing it with knowledge and prayer. The choir sings at the Latin Masses that are celebrated at the cathedral every Saturday.
