What is romeo state of mind in scence 1?

Romeo's state of mind in Scene 1 is one of deep sadness and depression. He is lovesick over Rosaline, who has rejected him. He is so distraught that he refuses to participate in the Capulet ball, even though it is a chance for him to see her. Instead, he hides in the orchard, where he is found by Benvolio. Benvolio tries to cheer him up, but Romeo is inconsolable. He believes that his life is over and that he will never be happy again.
