Kappa Delta Pi was founded by Dr. William Bagley in 1911 at the University of Illinois. The society was developed to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship for those committed to the field of teaching. The name Kappa Delta Pi is derived from the Greek words meaning knowledge, duty and power. Kappa Delta Pi is an international organization, fostering more than 582 chapters and currently has over 45,000 honor society members. Famous members include Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver and Eleanor Roosevelt, to name a few.

The society strives to meet the changing needs of educators and their students. The society also provides educator resources and encourages innovation and best practices. Kappa Delta Pi is also a large contributor to publications, conferences, online resources and strategic partnerships to promote the growth of education to others. The society also provides students and professionals growth platforms for learning and discussion. An invitation is not required to join Kappa Delta Pi. Instead, a prospective member must meet specific eligibility requirements.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest and most selective collegiate honor society. The society is for students across academic disciplines and is based on overall grade point average and class rank. Its chapters can be found on more than 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. Each year, approximately 30,000 members are initiated. In Greek, the society's name stems from the initial letters of the Greek words, forming the adopted motto "Let the Love of Learning Rule Humanity."

Membership is by invitation only to students in their second semester of their junior year who rank in the top 7.5 percent of their class, and senior and graduate students who rank in the top 10 percent of their class.
