Oberlin College in Ohio is generally considered the first coeducational college in the United States. While it didn't admit women on equal terms from the very beginning (women were admitted in 1837, but initially had a separate curriculum and were not allowed to vote in student government), it was the first institution of higher learning to commit to coeducation as a core principle.
