Empty your beer cans. It's a good idea to empty a few extras, perhaps 12 or 24, just in case you need backups to make your wind chime. After emptying your beer cans and waking up on the lawn the next day with your underwear on your head, move on to Step 2.
Punch a small hole in the top of four empty beer cans just behind the drinking hole using the nail and hammer. Then screw one of the small closed-screw hooks into each of the holes you punched. Be sure your hands aren't shaking too much.
Take your 15-inch long 1-by-4 inch piece of wood and, using the hammer and nail, make four small holes on one of the 1-inch sides of the wood spaced roughly 5 inches apart. Screw a closed-screw hook into each hole. You may need to use your needle-nosed pliers to turn the hooks and thread them into the wood.
Employ your needle-nosed pliers to pry open the links on both ends of your four 5-inch lengths of small chains. Connect the beer cans to the board using your needle-nosed pliers to close the open links around the hooks that you screwed into the cans and the board.
Utilize your hammer and nail to punch two holes on the other 1-inch side of your board roughly 10 inches apart and screw a closed hook into each hole. Pry open the links on both ends of your 12-inch length of chain, then close each end around both of the two hooks you just screwed into your board. You have completed your beer can wind chime.
Hang your new beer can wind chime where it can be appreciated, such as the back yard or give it away as a gift, perhaps to your probation officer.
