Purchase a calendar to keep track of your obligations. It is important to follow a daily schedule, so you should consider buying some type of calendar (or a daily or weekly planner or organizer) that you can use to keep track of your tasks and activities. You may also choose to make your own calendar with an appropriate computer software program.
Determine which days and times you are available to attend classes. In order to prepare a good college schedule, you should identify the time periods that you can go to school. For instance, perhaps you are only available to attend classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Or maybe you can take classes in the afternoons or evenings.
Meet with your academic counselor or adviser. Your college adviser or counselor can assist you with choosing the appropriate courses for your college major. She can also help you select classes that best fit your available schedule. Be sure to inform your counselor about your personal obligations so you can coordinate your college schedule around them. You should allow room in your college schedule for your other responsibilities, such as work, family obligations, church, meetings, appointments and other college-related activities you may participate in like band, choir or social organizations.
Write down your college schedule and review it with your counselor. Carefully go over your college schedule and make sure that everything is complete. Be sure to make any necessary changes before leaving the counselor’s office. Your counselor can let you know when you can actually register for your classes.
Complete the registration process. Once you have chosen your college schedule, you can register for your courses at the appropriate time. You may have the option of registering for classes online, over the telephone or in person at a designated location on campus.
