Among your considerations should be the location, the program's reputation in your field, and financial access that might include student loan packages, fellowships or scholarships. Start your research through Web sites, guides, and discussions with current students or graduates. Web sites associated with schools often have discussion boards about degree programs.
Narrow your list. Many prospective students submit four to eight applications. Base your number on the amount of time you have to complete the applications, the application fees, the affordability of the programs, the financial assistance available, Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) requirements, and the competitiveness and reputations of the programs. Web sites of the colleges often list any special fellowships and scholarships available. Be realistic about how achievable your goals are and how pleased you would be with your choice.
Visit the schools to which you have been accepted and are still seriously considering. Spend at least a day on campus to talk with students and professors, take a tour and attend informational sessions. Explore the community to make sure it is a place where you would be comfortable living.
