Help students gather research ahead of time. If the person you're tutoring needs to work on a 15 page literary analysis in two weeks, go with the student to the library or bookstore on the day the assignment is given, so you can get a head start in finding the right materials.
Create a study guide for the student. For example, if you spent the past three weeks going over algebra for the state high school graduation exam, assemble a packet that focuses on all the important concepts that the student should focus on. Also, include some pointers on certain concepts that the student struggles with. This keeps the student organized and makes it easier for her to study.
Buy a small case for the student's small school supplies. This keeps the student from losing them in the backpack and having to constantly replace them.
