Focus on the lives and concerns of veterans who are activists. Find some scholarly articles from websites such as JSTOR.org and Lexis-Nexis that deal primarily with their concerns. You could also interview veterans of different ages and backgrounds at special events, Veterans Affairs hospitals and homeless shelters to get their views on government support for veterans and other political issues that affect veterans.
Research the government's response to natural disasters in the nation's history. Compare responses from fifty years ago with recent patterns of government response to disasters. Arrange to interview some history and sociology professors on campus about this topic, and seek out nonfiction books that discuss natural disasters and government's treatment of them over the past decades. If possible, interview local residents who survived natural disasters in your area and record they felt about the government's response.

Discuss the effects this debate has on low-income school districts that lack the resources to improve their schools and how state education departments can help in this area.
