What did John Steinbeck study while attending Stanford University?

John Steinbeck did not graduate from Stanford University. He attended the university from 1919 to 1925, but did not earn a degree.

He initially majored in English, then switched to biology. He also took courses in philosophy, journalism, and writing.

Although he left Stanford without a degree, his time there influenced his writing. He later said that the university "gave me the best part of my education."
