Who was the first Indian professor of oxford university?

The first Indian professor at Oxford University is believed to be Syed Mahmud Husain who joined Balliol College as the Davis Professor of Chinese in 1911. Husain was born in 1869 and graduated with top marks from the University of Calcutta in 1889. He subsequently studied in Cambridge and Munich before moving to Oxford. Husain retired in 1940 and died in 1946.
