Research the seven TAFE institutions that Australia has to offer. Discuss the options for plumbing courses with admissions advisers at the colleges or conduct your own research online. The seven institutions are New South Wales Colleges of TAFE (NSW), Victoria Colleges of TAFE (VIC), Queensland Colleges of TAFE (QLD), Canberra Colleges of TAFE (ACT), Western Australia Colleges of TAFE (WA), South Australia Colleges of TAFE (SA), and Tasmania Colleges of TAFE (TAS).
Enroll in a plumbing course at the TAFE institute of your choosing. TAFE NSW offers a large variety of courses for plumbers (see Resources). TAFE SA and TAFE VIC both offer Certificate II-level training that can be applied to the plumbing trade (see Resources).
Attend the plumbing courses in which you have enrolled. Many TAFE programs allow students to work in apprenticeships to gain added knowledge of the plumbing trade. This experience will also aid in obtaining a post-education career in plumbing. According the TAFE SA website, South Australian plumbing employers have noticed a shortage of available, skilled workers for the trade. This need for young plumbers should also aid in the job-seeking process after studies have ended.
