Chemistry is often used in research practices. Chemical compounds make up drugs that need to be tested, and create items such as metals, plastics, and liquids. Choose a topic that you can research, such as drug testing for cancers, or tests of new chemical cleaning product. Research the chemistry behind your subject, and find out what it is used for and what the results of use might be.
Various compounds are made up of different components. Part of chemistry is looking at each of the individual components and seeing how those items work together to perform a task. Take apart the chemicals in a drug, or look at the different elements of a cleaner. See if the sum of the parts equals the whole, or if there are added effects of a compound you are not aware of.
Chemistry is also about reaction, and there are lots of open investigation topics that revolve around reactions as well. Investigate the way that two chemicals relate to each other, and what happens when they are mixed. Or, look at a reaction that occurs when a compound is used, and make an analysis of which of the components leads to that reaction.
Chemistry means mixing things together, but what happens when one compound is added to another compound? Experiment and research these topics. Just be careful that you research first, so you do not create a dangerous compound by accident.
