What high school courses are needed to become a teacher at University of BC?

Applicants to the Faculty of Education must have a four-year bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

In addition to the academic requirements, applicants must also meet the following professional requirements:

* English language proficiency: Applicants who are not native English speakers must demonstrate English language proficiency by achieving a score of at least 100 on the TOEFL iBT, 7.0 on the IELTS Academic test, or 60 on the CAEL exam.

* Personal qualities and suitability: Applicants must demonstrate the personal qualities and suitability necessary for teaching, including a commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

* Professional experience: Applicants must have demonstrated experience working with children and/or youth, such as through teaching, tutoring, or volunteer work.

Recommended high school courses

Although there are no specific high school courses required for admission to the Faculty of Education, the following courses are recommended:

* English: English courses that develop critical thinking, reading, writing, and communication skills.

* Mathematics: Mathematics courses that develop problem-solving and numeracy skills.

* Science: Science courses that provide students with a basic understanding of the natural world.
