Waiting staff or servers usually do not require any formal education beyond a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. However, some employers may prefer candidates with a post-secondary degree or certification in hospitality or culinary arts.
Training:
Most servers receive on-the-job training from their employers, which may include learning how to:
- take orders,
- serve food and beverages,
- interact with customers, and
- use the cash register.
