In what parts of Europe did women study at universities?

Women began to attend universities in several parts of Europe starting from the late 19th century:

- Switzerland: The University of Zurich admitted its first women students in 1864, and other Swiss universities followed suit shortly after.

- Russia: The first courses for women opened in St. Petersburg and Moscow in the 1860s and women were gradually admitted to the regular programs.

- Italy: The University of Rome began admitting women in 1875 and other Italian universities soon followed.

- France: Following a series of struggles, women gained access to higher education in 1880.

- Finland: The University of Helsinki started admitting women in 1870.

- Germany: Women were officially admitted to universities from the 1900 onwards, but there was strong resistance to female education.
